"We live in a world that's all about customization, and videogames are no different. Being able to create personalized characters, clothes, furniture and even environments is becoming more and more important to gamers, and Animal Crossing was just the beginning. MySims is EA's first attempt at digging into the realm of customizable towns, and it does so in a way that's completely different from what its popular The Sims series has offered so far."

"It's been great to see EA change their strategy in the last year or so. Rather than going through the same-old, same-old, they've been innovating and switching things around in a way that other third parties seem scared to do, particularly in regards to Wii. MySims was the latest in this line of development; a Sims game specifically built for Wii. But wait! They also created a version for DS, which has not received quite as much attention. How does it hold up to its big brother?"

"They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If so, the creators of Nintendo's sublime Animal Crossing: Wild World should feel suitably sincered. EA's latest addition to its wildly profitable Sims series is less an homage, more a carbon copy of the colourful world according to Tom Nook."

"If there are two words to describe the complete gameplay of MySims it would be: Mini Sims. It is as similar as the precedent except with much younger Sims paired with lullaby-like songs. So if you liked the The Sims, you might enjoy The Sims’ little sis: MySims."

"It was obvious from the very beginning that EA was taking a different route with its latest "Sims" project, MySims. On both Nintendo DS and Wii, MySims puts you in the role of a newcomer to a ruined town, and rather than following the original formula of previous Sims games - create players, start a family, buy a house, get a job, and live life - you'll instead not only further yourself, but also be responsible for picking the town up and restoring it to its original glory. On Wii, much of this has to do with creation, building homes and businesses for the town Sims to live and work out of, while simultaneously upping the town's social appeal. On DS, however, it's a bit of a different design, but it still works rather well."

"Any similarities between this gameplay and Animal Crossing have got to be purely intentional. MySims on DS is like finding out that the maniac that hot-wired your car before driving it into the local orphanage is a cute puppy dog with a comedy over-sized head. On one hand, it's an evil thief that needs its head shoved in, but on the other hand, aww, it's just so cuuute!!!"

"I think the most befuddling thing about Animal Crossing was how incredibly simple it seemed. Watching people trying to describe it in reviews was always amusing; it's nearly impossible to explain how a game in which all there is to actually do is fish and run errands could possibly be anything other than boring and pointless, and even harder to pinpoint that something that makes it so much more than the sum of its parts. After all, it's a game in which you do nothing much for a few hours a day, over the course of months and years. It makes absolutely no sense."

"The Leipzig Games Convention is held in Germany. The clue is in the title: Leipzig's in Germany, you see. And that, perhaps, was why German was the default language in the demo of EA's reinvention of its Sims series for the Nintendo platforms.
Still, the Sims speak their own language, so playing the game 'auf Deutsch' wasn't actually that troublesome."

"EA has always been a company that, at least on the surface, is focused primarily on sports franchises. Over the years, though, Electronic Arts has moved into nearly every category of gaming, including everything from racing to FPS games, and even casual efforts for the "un-gamer" crowd. The Sims has moved from being a one-hit wonder to actually requiring its own faction of the EA brand, as game after game is released with a different spin depending on the users and platform it heads to. With MySims we're seeing it again, and while the latest DS Sims effort will certainly be familiar to gamers, just exactly why it's familiar may be a surprise. EA had the latest build at its event today, so we figured we'd also give you an update to Nintendo's latest Sim property."

'Though similar in concept to its counterpart on the Nintendo Wii, MySims for the Nintendo DS has a feel all its own thanks to the console's dual-screen presentation, stylus and touch-screen interface, and an urban-renewal focus that has more to do with redecoration than from-the-ground-up creation. We had a chance to see and play the DS version of MySims at EA's hotel space at E3 2007.
As in the Wii version of the game, you're still tasked with reinvigorating a run-down town full of NPC Sims who you will interact with and get tasks from. In MySims for the DS, however, you'll be living in a resort town, and the goal is to bring both new shop owners and plenty of money-spending tourists into town in order to progress in the game. Each area of town has at least one citizen that can perform special abilities, such as a tailor you can visit in order to customize your Sim's clothing."

"A game like MySims is perfectly capable of transforming the most hardened killer into the personification of cheerfulness and goodwill towards humanity. If this was not enough, Electronic Arts has just proved that the game can also be a deep and rewarding experience during its latest demo at E3. MySims is not simply an exercise in assembling new pieces of furniture: It's also about relationships and self-improvement, just like many other installments in the series. This time we decided to skip the creation of characters and the free-roaming to see something completely new, the brand-new mood system that affects the whole town. In order to do that, we first need to step back to the item creation and talk about blueprints and patterns."

"It says much about the impact of the cute graphics and DIY ethos of Nintendo games such as Animal Crossing (and the Mii avatars on Wii) that EA's decided to take its hugely popular Sims in the same direction.
The result is MySims, a game which relies almost completely on player creativity for its fun. And as you can see from the first batch of released screens, colourful and cuddly is definitely its ethos."

"At its recent pre-E3 event in Los Angeles, Electronic Arts afforded us hands-on time with a number of its upcoming games. One of those games was the Nintendo DS version of MySims, which we'd seen previously at a couple of events but had never actually had an opportunity to play. Rather than simply play around with some of the features that we were familiar with already we opted to check out some of the minigames that you'll be playing to make friends, money, and items in the game.
The Nintendo DS version of MySims, which is quite different to the Wii version, will feature eight minigames in total, some of which will only be unlocked as you progress. Those games include conversation, dousing, fishing, lei making, racket ball, paragliding, skydiving, and scuba diving. Only a handful of the minigames were unlocked in the version of MySims that we were playing, but after being pleasantly surprised at the level of challenge that they offered we still ended up spending a fair bit of time with them."
