Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at Nintendo World Report.

"Imagine an alternative universe to Hyrule, where the people you meet are odd, the things you see are odd, and the places you go are also odd. Along with all of these out of place sights is the oddest one of all, Tingle. A minor character introduced in the Legend of Zelda games, Tingle hoards rupees and dresses like a fairy. Tingle's origins are introduced in Rosy Rupeeland by a character with the name of “Uncle Rupee". Before this quest, it seems that Tingle was just an ordinary man with an unfulfilling, ordinary life. Much like Link though, once he receives his green uniform, he is bound to an adventure in which he must go along with whatever he is confronted with."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at PALGN.

"There are a number of absolutely indisputable facts in this world; the sun is hot, Antarctica is cold, and everybody hates Tingle. Originally appearing in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Tingle was really just a harmless map seller – neither widely hated nor loved. However, his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was much more cruel – Tingle had something of a capitalist turn, having fallen in love with rupees. His selling of Triforce maps for overly exorbitant amounts of rupees stopped many players progress, and was widely considered the game’s weakest point. That’s not to say that Tingle doesn’t have his fans, many of which were happy when Nintendo announced the release of Freshly Picked: Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland – and surprised when a European release was announced. Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland is certainly heavy on the fan service, but its simple gameplay really prevents it from being a compelling experience."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at Pocketgamer.co.uk.

"We would love to have sat in on the meeting where this game concept was pitched.

"So the hero is a 35-year-old virgin, who lives alone, has a penchant for dressing up in a green fairy suit and shaking his ample booty to saxophone-based freeform jazz?" queries a bemused-looking Nintendo boss.

"Yes," chirps back the enthusiastic Japanese designer. "By gamers, for gamers."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at Play.tm.

"I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, popping the cartridge out of the shiny-gold DS case. Nintendo were certainly pulling out all the marketing stops with this glitzy game box. Tingle, as some may not be aware, is a character we have met before in Hyrule. Back in Wind Waker on the Cube not too many hours in, you free the little chap from his temporary prison. Unless you had a GBA and a link cable you never really got full value out of this little fellow, but his mischievous spirit seemed to live on and find fruition in the form of Twilight Princess's Midna."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at N-Sider.

"If you hail from some bizarre parallel universe where this sort of insanity is the economic norm, or even if the above just sounds to you like a good time, you are absolutely going to adore Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at Cubed3.

"We can’t be the only ones who not only bawked but also marveled at Nintendo’s audacity to release a game based around one of the more universally unpopular characters in their libraries. Tingle is that character, of course, originally appearing in the Zelda franchise, and for some reason, despite the considerable amount of dislike lodged towards him by many people, he has been awarded his own adventure. The important question is, though - can it hold up to the main Zelda titles?"

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at 1up.

"For some people it's a change of career. For others, it's a new sports car. But for your mid-life crisis, you'll don green tights and dedicate your life to collecting rupees at the behest of Uncle Rupee in order to reach Rupeeland, a mythical paradise filled with mouth-watering food and beautiful women. You will become Tingle, the most Uranian personality of the Zelda franchise."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at Eurogamer.

How kind of Nintendo to write a game just for me. It had to happen eventually.

"Hey you, the 35-year old man over there!"

[Whuh? I'm nearly 35, there's no need to be rude]

"The daily grind has got you down, but you can escape this dull existence."

[Oh, come on, it's not that bad. TGS was pretty good, apart from missing the flight home. Besides, I've got Halo 3 to look forward to this weekend]"

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at IGN.

"Of all the Nintendo support characters to get their own game, surely Tingle must seem like the most unlikely. He's a balding, 35-year-old fat bloke with a penchant for green body stockings and mannerisms so camp they make Kenneth Williams look positively butch. Yet here we are about to review a game that features not only Tingle as the lead character, but a bunch of other misfits that look like they've escaped from Hyrule's mental asylum. But while Tingle's quirky charms certainly won't be for everyone, those willing to look past some of the game's underlying shortcomings - and there are many - will discover something of a unique, albeit flawed, DS title."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland review at BGB.

"Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland for the Nintendo DS? Don’t mind if I do! A spin-off from the Legend of Zelda series starring one of its most popular (?) characters, Tingle, certainly sounds promising. But Tingle is no legendary hero; he’s a 35-year old midget in green tights who sells maps. In fact, there’s very few Zelda elements present in this title. But if you’re buying a video game just because it has a minor character from Zelda on the cover, you’re a darned fool!"

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland hands-on at IGN.

"When The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess came out, there was a distinct lack of the series' trademark creepy effeminate rupee whore, Tingle. Turns out that Eiji Aonuma heard that American gamers are not too fond of Tingle and he decided to leave him out. The map seller holds a special place in our hearts, so we made sure to import Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland for the Nintendo DS, since it just came out in Europe today (after being out in Japan for about a year). We've been playing it, we feel dirty, and we're giving you our hands-on impressions."

Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland interview at Neogaf.

"Nintendo of Europe: Many interesting characters appeared in the Zelda games over the years. What was the particular attraction in picking Tingle out of the bunch to star in his own game?

Kensuke Tanabe: "A little while before we started this project, I was talking with my boss at that time, saying; 'Nintendo will need to consider promoting new characters other than Mario and Link.'

"We were looking for a character that had a totally different flavour from Mario and Link and who would have a strong impact, and we came to the conclusion, 'What about Tingle?'

"He is not a cool guy at all, and he is not a character whom everybody likes. However, at least I can say he is a person who cannot be ignored.

"I believed there was a chance his public image could be changed from unfavourable to favourable depending on what kind of game we made, so I took a risk and chose him, despite knowing he was not liked by the people - especially in the U.S."
