Insecticide hands-on at Gamespot.
"Earlier this week, during a meeting with Gamecock Media Group, we had an opportunity to get our hands on a two-level demo of Insecticide for the Nintendo DS. Currently in development at virtual studio Crackpot Entertainment, Insecticide is a detective game that will offer two distinct gameplay styles: fast-paced third-person platforming and shooting, and more sedate, puzzle-oriented investigative sequences. The split between the two gameplay styles will purportedly be 50/50 as you progress through the game, so it's fitting that we got to play through a level of each."

Insecticide preview at 1up.
"Insecticide, the bug-run detective story, takes you through both fast action and slow sleuthing levels. Called 'action' and 'detective,' these two types offer up quite different experiences, as we discovered when we recently played through two early levels.
The action level took us on a bug-chase over the rooftops of a city, double-jumping to reach far and high ledges. There was a lot more platforming and a lot less shooting than the naming convention suggests -- we spent much of the time making jumps, navigating various walkways, and searching for special power-ups to collect -- likely because, as the game's opening level, it has to train players on the controls."

Insecticide interview at Pocketgamer.co.uk.
"To be honest, when we first heard about cartoon insect-based detective noir adventure-game-with-shooter-elements Insecticide, we weren't surprised to discover the developers were crackpots.
But that's Crackpot Entertainment to you and us, so welcome the chief crackpot, CEO Mike Levine, to talk us through some of the workings of his crazed mind."

Insecticide hands-on at Pocketgamer.co.uk.
"You may want to rethink crushing those insignificant little ants under the sole of your shoes or swiping away a roving spider with the back of your hand.
One day, they could do the same to you.
At least, that's the premise behind Insecticide, a game depicting a world in which the vast majority of people have died from toxic pollen released into the atmosphere. With humanity essentially bumped from the top of nature's totem pole, insects have evolved into a sentient race capable of building its own societies."

Insecticide hands-on at DSFanboy.
"I didn't get as much time with Crackpot's Insecticide as I liked, but I got to mess around in both an action stage and the detective mode, at least superficially enough to know how they worked. I can tell you right away that all three Psychonauts owners, as well as LucasArts adventure fans, are going to want this."

Insecticide hands-on at Wired.
"The gang at Gamecock are gaga over the Nintendo DS, if you go by their booth at PAX. Two-thirds of the games on display are for DS; one of them is called... Insecticide.
Here's how it was pitched to me: some of the refugees from LucasArts' creativity department formed a developer called Crackpot Entertainment, and are making a hybrid point-and-click adventure slash over-the-shoulder platform shooter starring a detective who is also a bug. That was all I needed to know, and I stole a chair from anothe game demo area and hauled it up to the Insecticide demo to check it out."

Insecticide preview at 1-up.
"Private dicks and dames, mobs and murder -- the familiar players, tropes, and vices that populate the hard-boiled crime story are evidently as resilient as cockroaches. Even in a terrifying future world where man no longer exists and insects have seized the reigns as the planet's dominant race, noir lives on, cast with the pests that hopefully aren't living in your walls right now.
Such is the setup of Insecticide, the first game from Crackpot Entertainment due out for PC and Nintendo DS this fall. "Crack who," you say, "and what's so great about a game full of cockroaches?" The name may be new, but Crackpot's key members are far from rookies. In years past under the LucasArts banner they played large roles in producing such beloved point-and-click adventure classics as Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. Learning this, odds are you're either smiling ear-to-ear as a fan of all things old-school LucasArts, or wondering -- having missed out on the glory days of adventure gaming and with tastes more inclined toward the shooty/killy -- why that other chump is smiling. Don't worry -- Crackpot has both of you chumps covered."

Insecticide hands-on at IGN.
"The seedy underworld of bugs is not for the faint of heart. Crackpot Entertainment's Insecticide lets players live a bug's life as they journey through an adventure featuring both heavy action and in-depth detective gameplay mechanics.
Action segments control similarly to Nintendo's Metroid Prime: Hunters--press L to fire guns, use the stylus for camera control, and use the d-pad for basic movement. The basic setup seems to fall apart when platform elements such as jumping are required, as I was forced to awkwardly press the B button while holding the stylus. Hopefully some sort of touchscreen implementation can be added before the game ships this holiday, as the less the player has to move his hands away from the screen and d-pad, the better."

Insecticide preview at Gamespot.
"Though Insecticide is an action game, it will undoubtedly draw comparison to games from the golden era of LucasArts, but when you consider the histories of the developers behind it at Crackpot Games, that's perhaps fitting. This is because Crackpot Games has developers that are veterans of such games as Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango. These are all games that had memorable stories, characters, and settings.
Insecticide is set in the distant future where highly evolved insects have inherited the Earth. (Humans have dumbed themselves down so far that now they're just laughable primates.) These insects have built a civilization that wouldn't seem too far out of place in a film noir movie, and you'll play as a young police detective named Chrys. She and her partner Reggie are drawn into a mysterious case that involves a long-unsolved case from Reggie's past, as well as a more recent murder."

Insecticide for DS officially announced.
Cockpit, Austin, Texas – May 24, 2007 – Today Gamecock Media Group announced Crackpot Entertainment’s Insecticide will be released on PC and the Nintendo DS™ system this holiday season. The classically styled action adventure detective game brings the look and feel of gritty gumshoe films into a futuristic city where insects have become the dominant race.
Insecticide’s gameplay puts players in the shoes of bug detectives charged with the task of investigating a mystery of epic proportions. Players will discover gameplay elements reminiscent of classic adventure titles, and action elements that will get the heart racing. Every aspect of the game brings players into a totally interactive world to discover, allowing them to put together and utilize clues to their fullest extent in hunting down culprits. Bringing the game to both PC and Nintendo DS opens a plethora of options and expands the possibilities of scenarios players will find themselves in. The unique input options of PC and Nintendo DS will allow for precise navigation to investigate environments and expertly control special talents of the characters.
“The heart of classic detective novels and movies is to get the audience involved mentally, but now via PC and the Nintendo DS we can get players involved in a much more tactile arena,” said Rick Stults, Console Chief for Gamecock Media Group. “The mouse and the stylus are the key to the ‘touch and feel’ experience we’re really aiming for with this game and I think that’s something players are really going to enjoy.”
Insecticide’s interactive environments are fully realized in realtime 3D on the Nintendo DS and the wide array of in-game items, clues and weapons assure hours of entertainment either at home or on the go. Additionally, players on the Nintendo DS will be able to team up with friends and other comrades in arms for multiplayer action. Never before has a crime world had this much buzz.
