Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Starry Sky preview at 1-up.

"Although it wasn't shown in playable form, Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX for DS put in an appearance at the show as the climax of the company's video presentation. A lengthy animated trailer (drawn in a beautifully colorful interpretation of designer Akira Toriyama's style) played up the multiplayer aspect of the game, and even showed a touch of gameplay.

The hook for DQIX, and one of the main reasons the series has moved from PlayStation 2 to the less powerful DS, is the four-player gameplay. A first for the DQ series, the multiplayer style is somewhere between traditional Dragon Quest and an MMO. A team of four players join up and explore together, running around open fields through which monsters freely roam. Although it looks like your typical MMO as the party explores, combat transpires entirely through the series' traditional turn-based first-person point-of-view. Players will have to collaborate and work together, making use of the skills unique to their character's respective class."
