"It's surprising there isn't a greater wealth of turn-based strategy war games on the DS, given the fact that Nintendo's portable seems to be geared toward that style of gameplay. Fans of Advance Wars already know that even a more casual take on the genre can be fun and addictive. This is thanks to the flexibility of the DS dual screens and touch pad. But, at least in the West, there's been a lack of more serious complex turn-based war games so far. It's a gap that 10TACLE Studios and Austrian developer Sproing are looking to fill with their forthcoming game Panzer Tactics DS."

"December 3,2007 - With so many pony and dog related games coming out for the Nintendo DS, shouldn’t there be a bit more ass kicking? Atlus Software seems to think so. After the recent releases of Bleach: The Blade of Fate and Mortal Kombat, Atlus brings forth Draglade, a music-themed fighting game. While the premise of fighting according to a rhythm is interesting, the fighter doesn’t quite live up to the quality of something like Mortal Kombat."

"The Mega Man series has been around for over twenty years, and not much has changed in that time. However, the ZX games for Nintendo DS infuse a lot of life into this venerable series by expanding the most iconic element of the entire franchise. We all know that Mega Man gains powers from his defeated foes, and he can then use those abilities against other enemies and to reach secret areas. In Mega Man ZX, you copy entire bosses, allowing you to transform into the defeated characters and use all of their moves, not just one special attack. This idea makes the game more interesting because each transformation has completely different abilities, movement, speed, and power. The feature isn't completely exploited in Advent, the second ZX game, but it does make the game more fun and more flexible than most of its predecessors."

"Unlike its console counterparts, Thrillville: Off the Rails for the Nintendo DS isn't really a theme park management simulation. Instead, it's more of a role-playing game with park design aspects, minigames, and some story all mixed together. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, the lack of in-depth features may limit how much time you actually invest in the game, especially when you discover that no skill is required to keep a park running."

"Okay, so we're not dumb (well, not really dumb). John Deere: Harvest in the Heartland is obviously just an advertisement for John Deere tractors disguised as a Harvest Moon ripoff. Fine, we can deal with that. After all, Cabela's has sponsored tons of hunting/fishing games without beating the brand name over the player's head. The difference is that Cabela's doesn't require the player to travel to an authorized retailer and purchase its products as the only option to progress. It wouldn't be a big deal if the developer made a decent game that's actually fun to play. Unfortunately, Black Lantern Studios made a game that is hardly functional, much less fun."

"I have been playing first-person shooters since Doom debuted on the PC, and few since then have stood out as much as Call of Duty 2. I first played the game in 2005, in a Circuit City while on vacation in New Orleans. While everyone else was shopping for presents, I went to the videogame section to check out all the new demos. I saw someone playing Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox 360 and was intrigued. After the person quit, I started playing and instantly got hooked."

"Twenty years ago, the world learned the meaning of ‘awesome’. The original Contra hit arcades, but didn’t truly gain popularity until the series came to the NES. The series continued to Super Contra, and Contra III: The Alien Wars, both of which maintained the amazing level of quality held in the first. Eventually moving on to the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance, Genesis, PS1 and PS2, the series quickly deteriorated into nothing but a name that Konami slapped onto poorly developed titles to spur some level of interest and sales. But despite the poor quality, Super Contra and Contra III were still burned into gamers’ memories as titles that deserved such high respect. To celebrate the original’s 20th Anniversary, Konami has published a brand new numbered iteration of the series - the first in 15 years. Contra 4 is a complete throwback to the original game design that made the series so memorable, with the ‘4′ meaning to symbolize the series’ return to the quality that was found in the original three games. But has the Old School design aged gracefully enough to warrant another title?"

"November 30,2007 - If you're a fan of Square Enix's games, good or bad, the DS is the system for you. For one reason or another, the RPG powerhouse developer/publisher has released more strategy-type RPG's than the standard ones everybody has been accustomed to seeing. We've seen another lackluster entry into the Mana series with Heroes of Mana, an old school title that goes beyond hardcore strategy with Front Mission, and now Square is taking the similar combat system from Heroes of Mana in a sort of different direction with a follow-up to Final Fantasy XII. The attempt to bring some strategic flair to the Mana series left players a bit dazed, but has it worked in this Final Fantasy XII follow-up?"
